12 days left, Cpdm forges on

Two things marked the highpoint of the two hour exchange which took place at the “Salle des 400 places” of the Yaoundé conference centre. First was the reading of the decisions signed by the national president of the Cpdm appointing a national campaign manager in the person of Philemon Yang and the operational coordinator of campaign in the person of René Sadi. Then came the strategic discourse of the Secretary general during which he said “all Cameroonians of good will await this election with anxiety in a bid to safeguard Cameroon’s peace”. Announcing the party’s slogan (Paul Biya: the People’s choice), he said “our objective for this election goes beyond re-electing Paul Biya but, to ensure a landslide victory for him”. He called on all party officials to opt for synergy and shun exclusion on the field during campaign. In this connection, Mr Sadi happed on a series of recommendations: campaign of huge proximity to be done door-to-door, abstain from over or under estimating political parties that partner with the Cpdm, master the manifesta of opponents so as to better confront them, assist the administration if need arises and finally create vigilante groups to facilitate the promotion of peace across the country. He further advised comrades to ensure that all militants of the Cpdm receive their voters’ cards and use them. Further more, he said “we must remain on the alert during and after the election as well as till the day of oath taking of president Paul Biya”. “We are going to the election with a very high spirit but without any condescendence”. Moreover, he moved on, “it is better for the Cpdm to win but, it would be best if the party’s candidate gets a landslide victory”. The meeting began with the reading of the circular from the national president of the party by the Communication secretary, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo. From it, attendees were advised to make the campaign to be open, truthful and should focus on the good of all Cameroonians. Also, the circular highlighted the fact that “campaign outside Cameroon will unfold according to the rules and regulations of the different countries in which campaign will take place”. After him, the organisation secretary, Ibrahim Talba Malla mounted the rostrum to read out the two decisions appointing Mr Philemon Yang and René Sadi respectively. He further read two other decisions appointing members of the operational coordination and those of the regional coordination units of the Cpdm campaign. Attended by virtually all Cpdm ministers, Members of Parliament and other high level officials, the meeting was the last rendezvous between hierarchy of the party and grass root militants. As well, former Prime ministers in the likes of Ephraim Inoni, Peter Mafany Musonge and Simon Achi Achu, the last two being the heads of Paul Biya’s campaign in their regions of origin.
