Vigilance, objectivity and devotion to work were some of the recommendations given by Okalia Bilai, governor of the South West region, as he commissioned the new man in charge Mr. Peter Tieh Nde.
The huge crowd that turned out at the Mamfe grandstand last November 5 attested to the people’s commitment in respecting state institutions and those who incarnate them. Comprising of administrative, municipal, political, religious and traditional authorities, alongside well wishers, the people came to witness the installation of the newly appointed senior divisional officer for the Manyu in the person of Peter Tieh Nde.Addressing those present, Governor Okalia Bilai commended the outgoing Sdo, Simou Kamsou Patrick for his maturity, cooperation and objectivity in handling several sensitive issues in the division. It is his meritorious work that earned him the award of the Officer of the Cameroon National Order of merit. To the incoming senior divisional officer who had served in the Ndian division in the same capacity, Okalia Bilai prescribed commitment and objectivity in carrying out his duties. He said it was now incumbent on Tieh Ndeh, to uphold developmental strides especially in the wake of decentralization. Thus, he was charged to follow up the financial and physical execution of earmarked projects within his area of jurisdiction, aimed at fostering sustainable development. He was particularly exhorted to pay utmost attention to the follow up of the announced Kumba –Mamfe road which is of great importance not only to the people of Manyu but the country as a whole. As the senior administrative authority of the division, he will have to take interest in the sometimes violent disputes that have been known to occur between ethnic communities of the division. Ensure security for all considering that the tarring of the Bamenda-Mamfe road means an increase in the flow of people and goods. As the primary authority in charge, and guarantor of law and order, he would have to address all issues within the ambits of the law, in order to foster peaceful cohesion and check crime wave due to the construction of the roads in the division.Another call was for Tieh Nde to rage war on the disturbing practice of mob justice, considered as a retrogressive practice which has led to the assassination of honest persons who become the target of false accusations. He will have to monitor the illegal and wanton sale of land along the newly tarred roads and particularly follow up the execution of development projects in the area as well as the smooth functioning of the councils which constitutes one of the instruments of development at the grass roots. The new SDO for Manyu is a seasoned state administrator, who has served the state in many capacities as, SDO, DO, Secretary General in various parts of the country. The 50 year old administrator takes over at a time when the country is undergoing transformation in various aspects, and will therefore have to contribute his own quota to making the nation an emergent one by 2035.
