In the next three months reorganization fever will grip all sections of the CPDM and watchdogs of the party must ensure strict respect of instructions to guarantee free and fair elections, and put the party on a lamp-stand.
The Secretary General of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement Jean Nkuété made the remark in succinctly worded phrases at the meeting of all the teams on October 2. He rolled out four main expectations of hierarchy from the disciples of the party to the field.First and foremost, the party wants the teams to foster peace and quiet, and work must be carried out in strict order and discipline. Moreover, voting must be open to all militants who have paid their membership and the election must be free, democratic and transparent. Also, the party wants the teams to integrate local executives rather than sweep them aside. But these must show proof of ‘loyalty, fidelity, competence, mastery of the terrain, new ideas, humility, hard work …,’ the SG said in his keynote address. ‘You will have to assure the reinforcement of the party at the base, so as to create a modern party, a party more than ever before concerned about the commitments of a party in power, party winged on the fresh impetus and resolutely engaged in the fight for development and the construction of a modern Cameroon by the National President Paul Biya,’ the SG concluded. To reach these expectations, according to the SG the teams must assume their responsibility, solve all problems at their level within the ambit of the existing texts, fix their eyes on the general good and be rigorous. And, ‘you must not forget that renewal of the basic organs of the party to hold this year is the first of its kind in the life of the party, because it is the first election by internal universal suffrage,’ the SG reminded the delegates.
Jean Nkuété also pulled the ears of the central committee coordination teams on the need to master the political and electoral map of each unit. Most especially, the teams must show proof of discipline. He clearly accused past teams sent to the field on the eve of the legislative and municipal elections in 2013 of instigating scenarios of indiscipline because of their comportment in the field. To avoid a replay of the same set-up, the teams must be impartial, disseminate information to all militants, honest, transparent, work as a team and respect the roles of each other, avoid cacophony within the committee and be polite to all militants.
The SG like the National President in prelude to the exercise cautioned the teams to watch out against use of affluence, because as he puts it ‘money is a means not an end’ within the CPDM.
Since the operation is taking place in an atmosphere polluted by suicide bombers and hostage takers, and to avoid any undesirable eventualities during gatherings, the teams, according to the SG must inform the administration and forces of law and order of their field trips.
