The Chargée d’Affaires at the United States embassy Vernelle Trim FitzPatrick paid a courtesy call to the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPDM during which they exchanged views on collaboration.
Visibly elated, the Secretary General welcomed the US Diplomat who was accompanied by the Chief of the Political and Economic Section at the US embassy, Jennifer Bah. Flanked by Prof. Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, Coordinator of the CPDM Academy and Tagnin Tchidzen André, SGs private Secretary Jean Nkuété presented the CPDM Party to Mrs FitzPatrick. He explained that the CPDM incarnates the image of the regime – one that is serene and focused on serving the Cameroonian population. He outlined the various structures of the party, which he said were implanted nationwide. Detailing the functions of the various secretariats and those heading them as well as the specialised organisations of the Party, he said they all worked in harmony to meet the objectives of the party.
Cameroon and the US enjoy longstanding relations, which the SG lauded and described as “calm, discreet and efficient”. According to Mrs. FitzPatrick, her visit was aimed at understanding the viewpoint of the party with regards to its missions of accompanying the population in ameliorating its standards of living. She reviewed the various avenues through which her country cooperated with Cameroon, citing humanitarian action, security, health, communication (training of journalists) and support to civil society organisations to name but these. In addition, she said the bottom line of liaising with political parties was to promote ideas of democracy and look into what political parties can do to better the lives of the people in the domains of employment and access to basic social amenities.
Worthy of note is the fact that the vision for Cameroon is for it to attain emergency by 2035. With this in mind, the CPDM continues to support government action in nation building, with the requisite ingredient for development being peace. This explains the commitment of the militants and their unalloyed support for the National President Paul Biya.
