The North West regional coordination Committee expects complete reorganisation files from four divisions; Boyo, Bui, Mezam and Momo, today September 22, 2021.
Ngoketunjia, Menchum, and Donga Mantung divisional coordination Committees handed complete files to the North West regional coordination Committee, announcing the successful renewal of the basic organs of the CPDM in all the sections of the three divisions, the Chargé de Mission Dr Nwana Sama Bernard said. Three sections in Ngoketunjia, four in Menchum, and four in Donga Mantung have been reorganised within the deadline set by the Party’s hierarchy. The files carry information such as the number of basic organs; cells, branches, subsections, and sections in each division. Names of executives to locally run the affairs of the party at the basic organ level also feature in the files, likewise the tally of militants in sections. Only such militants that were up to date with their contributions participated in the elections.
The North West region had set the date of section elections from September 17 – 24, 2021. The electoral commissions and the divisional coordination committees seemed to have respected this calendar, compelled by a security scare. Over 15 soldiers were ambushed and killed by assailants belonging to armed groups in the region within this period, the army spokesperson said in s statement. The Northwest Coordination Committee came up with ways of circumventing the security situation, which were not disclosed.
Santa (Mezam II) is among the few areas that carried out the renewal process on site. Donga Mantung division and three sections of Bamenda city (Mezam I-A, Mezam I-B and Mezam I-C) also carried out their reorganisation on site. These areas enjoy relative calm. Others have been unable to openly renew basic organs because of the security situation in the region. The ongoing socio-political crisis laced with the terror by armed groups that target CPDM militants made the process difficult for party authorities of the region, Dr Nwana said.
However, militants of the North West known for their commitment and loyalty outmanoeuvred the security challenge. Due to the context, the process required heavy funds. More than 75% of the funds came of CPDM elite of the region.
