Kumba I Council : Mayor Counts Achievements Despite Crisis, Covid-19

Most of the achievements listed by the mayor centred on socio-economic development and the fight against Covid-19, as well as the relentless efforts to stop ghost town.

During a press briefing last weekend at the conference room of the Kumba I Council, the Mayor Barrister Moses Eseme Esembe, disclosed to media practitioners that their era has been prone by crisis, with the anglophone crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite these two difficult situations, the council has been striving with the realisation of some major projects that has impacted the lives of the population.
“ Much have been done to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, with the distribution of hygiene materials to the various structures hosted at the municipality, and continuous sensitization against the pandemic. We have equally secured land at Kake for the construction of a modern market, while classrooms have been constructed and equipped, thanks to the support from the Ministry of Basic Education. The council has graded streets, constructed culverts to link quarters and ease movement. On the issue of water supply, boreholes have been constructed at Nkamlikum and Bonakama, with others pending. On electrification, solar lights have been installed in most of the quarters”.
The press briefing was an opportunity to for the mayor to cement a working relationship with the media, as well as present the plan of action for the years ahead.
It was equally an opportunity for the mayor to congratulate and appraised the Ministry of Basic Education and social affairs, Health, and others for the speedy drive in fostering the decentralisation process. Being a CPDM run Council, the mayor used the press briefing to call on the militants and supporters of the party to remain steadfast and committed and to always lend their support to the council.
The Kumba I municipality being at the center of the city, has attracted internally displaced persons from other subdivisions like Mbonge and Konye.
On allegations that the mayor declared lockdown during the last party reorganisation exercise, and chased away militants who turned out to vote, Mayor Eseme described such as “distractions and a move by my opponents to sway me from the lovely and cooperative population. I call on the population of Kumba I municipality not to be carried away by such cheap political blackmail.
