North-west : From Bamenda, Celebrations Echoed Across the Region

Members of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM celebrated the 39th anniversary of President Paul Biya’s rise to power in Bamenda, and several areas of the region.

Since 2016, when the current crisis in the two English-speaking regions creeped in, never has militants of the party celebrated the anniversary in several localities in the region. A sign that peace is returning. Bamenda, Santa, Wum, Kumbo, Ndu , Misaje, Nkambe, Tubah, Nwa were among the towns where militants turned out to mark the anniversary.
In Bamenda, militants of the CPDM walked through the Commercial Avenue, the town’s busiest street, where the party could not hold a rally on December 8, 2016. Celebrations held at the Bamenda Congress Hall for the first time on Saturday November 6, 2021 since 2016. To party members like Senator Regina Mundi, former Prime Minister Philemon Yang and Minister Mbayu Felix were among the celebrants.
In his address to CPDM militants of the Northwest, former PM Philemon Yang, Head of the CPDM Central Committee Regional Delegation pitched his speech on the theme of the anniversary: “All united and gathered behind President Paul Biya for the diplomatic, cultural and sporting influence of the Cameroon that is one and indivisible, decentralized and emerging with guarantees living together, social peace, territorial integrity, consolidation of nation unity and accelerated development of our country.” Philemon Yang preached unity among militants especially after the reorganisation of the party’s basic organs. He said: “Do not abandon the party because you lost an election or because you were not giving the position you were asking for. You ought to be a good militant in the night and in the day”.
Women through the WCPDM President of Mezam 1A Dr Mrs Neba Doh Siri, sent a vote of thanks to the Head of State for his consideration of women. She expressed a wish for a female governor and even a female president of the Regional Assembly. In motion of support to President Paul Biya, militants pledged total support to the Head of State, and called on him to run for the next presidential election.
Reacting after the celebration, Senator Regina Mundi said: “The massive turn out today is a mark of confidence and trust for the Head of State H.E President Paul Biya. You see in the people the willingness to challenge fear and demonstrate their support for their national President.” “Our national chairman is a man of peace and his actions so far is geared towards the betterment of the nation and the Northwest in particular. We see in him that personality to bring back peace to the Northwest Region, and we are willing and ready to give to him the necessary support,” She added.
