In the Face of Challenge : CPDM Remains a Sentinel of Peace

At 37, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement has not wavered in its quest to see peace triumph over violence and uprising. A value most cherished by the National President, Paul Biya.

Amongst the messages contained in the Circular signed by Jean Nkuété on March 15 regarding the celebration of the Party’s anniversary, there was a note of peace. The theme for this year’s anniversary on March 24 is coined around relentless peace building at a time when the country is “resolutely turned towards shared emergence”. Aware that peace is a prerequisite for development, Paul Biya has continually championed the course for softer diplomatic tools. In fact, despite the havoc and damage caused by terrorists in some parts of the country, hampering government’s development agenda, the Head of state has often opted for dialogue, settling for means that would preserve peace. It is in the bid to stand by their “champion” that militants of the CPDM have taken upon themselves the responsibility to relay the culture of peace, which earned Cameroon a fond name in the central African sub region.
Not only have militants preached peace and shown concern for the wellbeing of their compatriots in the Anglophone regions rocked by socio-political crisis, they have also glanced at the bigger picture when other countries are at war. According to the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPDM, “we cannot remain insensitive to the geopolitical tumults and armed conflict that are setting the system of international relations ablaze…” The CPDM has always seized the opportunity to create awareness amongst the population on the need to remain peaceful. The challenges abound but the party is certain that no meaningful development can be done in chaos. This explains the SG’s stance that militants have to be relentless in educating explaining the value of peace. “Our duty, probably more than yesterday is to educate and explain in order to fulfill our historic role as a sentinel of peace” Jean Nkuété says adding that “the responsibility of our Party is so important in a society that is thirsty for our commitment and enlightened determination, in the heart of a world in search of more stability, meaning and humanity”
Though no major events have marked anniversary celebrations for the last two years due to Covid-19, militants have used every possible avenue ferry across messages to help in nation progress.
