The North West region will celebrate the 37th anniversary in 31 of the 34 sections, while the three sections that make up Bamenda will rally at the Congress Hall in the city.
This was the outcome of the meeting held in Yaounde last Friday at the residence of the Head of the North West Permanent Regional Delegation of the Central Committee Yang Philemon.
Besides deciding on the format of the celebration as per the circular of the Secretary General Jean Nkuété, the meeting was also an avenue of fundraising for the anniversary of tomorrow.
Since the presidential election of 2011, when the National President of the CPDM was candidate, the North West elite of the ruling party have crowdfunded all activities involving the CPDM in the region. March 24 anniversary celebration will not be different.
The party hierarchy of the region has decided to dole out 300,000 francs CFA each to 31 sections of the region. The regional delegation will also provide money for mobilisation of militants from Mezam IA, Mezam IB and Mezam IC to jointly celebrate at the Congress Hall – birth place of the torchlight party on March 24, 1985. Elite who cannot move into their sections of adherence will celebrate in Bamenda. The security situation remains volatile in the region and Yang Philemon has asked militants to stay out of harm’s way.
At the level of permanent divisional delegations and sections militants are also contributing money to foot the bills of the anniversary celebration.
Philemon Yang said section executives will manage the money, adding that the section presidents will chair the celebration as stated in the Circular of the Secretary General of the Central Committee. The circular spelled out the modalities of the celebration.
CPDM will be celebrating after a two year break forced on the party by the Coronavirus pandemic. But, the Secretary General has asked militants to respect the barrier measures Cameroon authorities have put in place to combat the further spread of Covid-19.
Each section will tailor-make anniversary celebration. In Mezam II (Santa) militants have raised more funds to cover the expenses of the installation of the party executives from the section to the cells. Elsewhere, the executive of Donga Mantung IV (Misaje) section with the support of Minister Fuh Calistus Gentry, elite of the area, has organised a football match between the main and youth wings of the party. The celebration promises to be popular.
