To commemorate CPDM’s 37th anniversary, militants gathered in the town of Ravena last March 26, 2022 and pledged unalloyed support to the National President, Paul Biya.
Militants travelled from Udine, Venice and Conegliano – North of Italy, Florence, Bologna, Ancona and other towns in the Centre as well as from Rome and Perugia to attend anniversary celebrations. Happy to meet again with the gradual return to normalcy after the ravages of Covid-19, it was an occasion to evaluate the road covered by the CPDM in thirty seven years. Coming two months after the Section held its first Conference, the militants acknowledged that such convivial moments helped them rekindle their love for the Party.
Representing the ambassador of Cameroon to Italy, Belinga Engoulou Marcel expressed delight at the turnout and encouraged his comrades to keep the flag of the Party flying high despite the challenges of militating on foreign soil. In line with the day’s agenda, various speakers took turns to do exposés on different topics aimed at enlightening militants on the tenets of the CPDM. Serge Sandjo Tonga, Section President painstakingly gave a history of the CPDM, from its creation in Bamenda and its evolution these thirty seven years. He furthered his presentation with the structures of the Party and their functioning, noting the uniqueness of the Party’s organization. The Section’s Vice President Sandrine Ottou remarked how Cameroon’s specificities were factors for development. While outlining some, she mentioned those that could be harnessed to develop the country’s touristic potential. She was upbeat that Cameroonians in Italy could serve as veritable ambassadors by selling Cameroon as tourist destination.
Frederick Ndang Nchaw, the Section’s Secretary for his part spoke on Paul Biya’s leadership and his vision for shared emergence. He noted that if the country was to attain the much desired and talked about emergence, Cameroonians all had to rally behind the president, while bringing in their own contributions to make the dream a reality. Other speakers like Patrick Banneck, delegate for lower organs and Manuela Elisa Ngangue, Section Treasurer expatiated on peace and unity as indispensable tools for development and solidarity as a factor of national cohesion.
To end the day, the militants raised their glasses to more fruitful years while pledging unalloyed commitment to the Party and its National President Paul Biya.
