The YCPDM of Ndop in Ngoketunjia division of the North West region will take advantage of the holiday period to engage youth of the area in peace sensitization.
The initiative is that of Pius Mingo, YCPDM section president of Ngoketunjia I (Ndop) who wants to reignite the values of peace among the youth of his section. He plans to achieve this by indulging the youth in profitable activities during the holiday. Mingo has been calling on the youth of Ndop to be creative and to shun idleness which according to him breads evil. For a section that is barley recovering from a crisis they are sending out messages of sensitization to the youth who are the most vulnerable part of the population. They must never again give heed to enemies of peace, haven suffer great loses as a result of the crisis. According to Mingo, “There is an undertone to every crisis that is usually not perceived at the start; those of our youth who were deceived to carry arms during the crisis did not factor in the repercussions. Consequently, they were subjected to starvation, rape, deprivation of movement, fear, lack of health care, diseases and premature deaths,” he said.
The Youth president regretted the fact that the nation’s economy has been seriously damaged due to the carelessness of a few misguided people. In his words “It will take decades for the entire nation of Cameroon to heal and to rebuild what has been destroyed. In cases where human lives have been taken there is no way those people are ever going to come back to life,” he lamented.
This and more are the factors that have spurred him to engage the youth to think and act rationally. The holiday peace sensitization crusade according to him is meant to stamp out all violent ideologies from among the youth. Mingo’s desire is to groom positive contributors to the nation building process.
To achieve this, the YCPDM section president with the support of the elite of the section will intensify leisure activities such as inter quarter football and handball competitions among the youths. This is meant to keep them busy and relaxed. Above all gathering the youth together in competitions and other activities will enable them to bond, as such develop love for one another.
Besides the leisure activities the YCPDM section president looks forward to ensure that those of the youths who are already of voting age will be mobilized to get registered. To that effect he wants to ensure that teams of ELECAM responsible for registration will be invited to register potential voters.
