The committed militant of Menchum III section in Benakuma has contributed enormously in consolidating the grip of the CPDM in the area.
Agha Martin got engaged in politics as a dedicated militant of the CPDM some 36 years ago. He has thrown his weight behind the ruling party since the advent of multiparty politics and contributed in transforming Menchum III Section and Menchum Valley Sub-Division into a CPDM stronghold, despite the strength of opposition parties in the North West region. A Sub-Section President for more than 20 years and a former municipal councilor for the Benakuma Council, he remains one of the most attached grassroots political elite of the region.
In the late eighties, just after graduating from school, he enthusiastically engaged himself as a selfless steward for the development of his community with an overwhelming spirit of volunteerism, sacrifice and the zeal to improve on the wellbeing of the people. In his community, he has financed feasibility studies for development projects and has assisted rural women with improved-seedlings and farming tools to boost agricultural production. With the numerous problems faced by youth in various communities, he has paid special attention to those of his area, specially assisting them to find jobs. Regarding education, he has provided benches and other didactic materials to schools that have expressed the need and even offered musical bands to some schools. In a bid to keep youths from falling prey to the ills of idleness, he has organised sporting competitions for them and awarded varied prizes and sponsorships.
Agha Martin has consistently and significantly contributed financially and materially to further the missions of the CPDM “Every year, there is a substantial assistance to militants and sympathizers to enable them enroll on the electoral registers. During the last two renewal of the basic organs of the Party, my help was determinant going by the massive mobilization of militants that led to the establishment of more than 18 new sub sections” he says.
Apart of being a permanent Central Committee Resource Person for Menchum III, Agha Martin has severally headed electoral commissions designated on special assignments, and made several missions for the Party. As an Alternate Senator for the North-West region, Agha Martin feels elated by this recognition of the Party Chairman President Paul Biya and is urged to do more for the prosperity of Cameroonians in general and the people of the North-West Region in particular.
When the crisis started in the NW, he organised a crusade across his community urging parents and children to go back to school, while dissuading from joining the movement. “I feel totally devastated seeing the magnitude at which the crisis has destroyed the socio-economic and political fabrics of the North-West Region which will certainly take many decades to rebuild”. He consistently invites people of goodwill to intensify efforts to bring this crisis to a halt.
