The 2nd edition of the popular holiday tournament dubbed “The Dr. Ajambang Ndung-BAFUT PEACE CUP” took place between July 10th and August 28th 2022 in Ndung-Bafut. It brought together 7 villages from the Lower Bafut Valley. The FCFA 500 000 trophy was very attractive in such a way that all the teams competed fiercely to carry the day. Finally, on Sunday the 28th of August 2022, it was the team FREE BOYS FC of Ndung that won the trophy by beating the team AGULI FC on penalty shoots.
The Cup donor Dr. Ajambang Walter Nchu (Maître de recherche) is the CPDM Sub Section President for Otang. He is Municipal Councilor and Committee Chairperson in Bafut Council.
This holiday football inter-village competition brought peace and unity especially at the dawn of the crisis. The village was vibrating as life was returning to the level of those old days. This tournament brought a lot of excitement to the various villages. Every day, they were holding training sessions and meetings to develop strategies that shall enable them win the trophy.
All the teams that participated in the tournament each won a prize. Each player from the winning teams was given a medal. A beautiful trophy was handed to the winner. The best player and highest goal scorer also received cash prizes.
At the end of the tournament, the population of the different villages wrote a letter of appreciation to the cup donor Dr. Ajambang Walter Nchu thanking him for all the sacrifices he has been making in the villages. The letter of appreciation came alongside a cock and a bag of fresh groundnuts.
The Cup donor Dr. Ajambang promised that he will double the amount for next year’s edition to FCFA 1m when the number of villages competing will increase from 7 to 10 villages. He pledged that the women shall also have their own special Women’s Football Tournament next summer holidays. Dr. Ajambang assured that next year’s 3rd edition final and Prize-giving ceremony shall culminate with the distribution of materials for pupils and students returning to school.
