More than 1000 inhabitants mostly of the CPDM Party gathered at the town hall to make positive proposals and assess their participation in local development.
In accordance with law number 2019/024, of December 24, 2019 to institute the general code of regional and local authorities, citizen participation remains a strong element in the successful functioning of councils. Apart from enhancing the bottom-top approach to development, it gives citizens the opportunity to contribute positively through proposals in the execution of grassroots development projects.
In the meeting organised by the Limbe city council recently, that brought together the population of the three Councils, CPDM militants who formed the bulk, championed the discussions by providing positive proposals. The Limbe city mayor, Paul Efome Ngale Lisombe who chaired the broad based consultations, told the different stakeholders that such a meeting was aimed at seeking the opinions of the population on the allocation and execution of projects. The meeting he said is intended to seek the opinions of the different class of inhabitants on the various projects executed in their communities. “After my election as city mayor, I adopted the slogan of ‘Building together‘, which means building in love, unity, and living together. The concept of citizens’ participation has been a great move that seeks to get the citizens involved and participate in all forms of development. This broad based consultation will provide a platform for all inhabitants of Limbe, irrespective of sex, age, class, to give their contribution for the growth and development of the city of friendship. Discussions and proposals focus on environmental protection, economy, health, infrastructural development, sports and culture”. The consultation will cover the years 2019 to 2022, and will culminate to the council budget orientation debate then the budgetary session, all to ensure that the city council budget for 2023 is perfectly executed.
The meeting according to some CPDM militants who answered present, is an indirect platform of the city mayor to galvanize militants by seeking their concerns in the development of the city and to keep them alert ahead of upcoming elections. To these militants, the development of Limbe must be championed by the CPDM party, reasons why they spearheaded the discussions, stating that a well developed city, will neutralize all trace of the opposition in the city of Limbe.
