26-year-old Mezam IA YCPDM leader, Mekom Samuel is now at the helm of the Cameroon National Youth Council, CNYC for the North west regional office.
The young entrepreneur and avid militant of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM who occupies the seat of the youngest Grand Councilor of the Bamenda City Council will pilot activities of the CNYC at the North West regional office for the next three years.
Samuel was elected, December 7 by an overwhelming 39 of the 42 votes cast by delegates representing the seven divisions of the North West. He stood unopposed following the disqualification of his opponent, Tumenta Peter for electoral non-compliance.
The elections were supervised by the Secretary General at the North West Governor’s office, Bassiliken Magloire Georges who challenged the elected representatives to burry selfish interests and bring the region to the fore again in terms of development and civility. He is taking the lead over an embattled region whose workforce, the youths have been dissuaded to rebel against the state. His hope and promise however is to restore the sanity of the youth in a world of numerous opportunities. “Youths in the region are excelling in agriculture, livestock rearing and even in tech. We will galvanize all of these talents and harness those of others so they can become job creators tomorrow” Mekom Samuel told the press.
Being an entrepreneur himself, piloting two companies in the tech and education sectors, Samuel has been rooting in youth organisations in the region involved in agriculture and tech domains to inspire them take advantage of opportunities around them, using himself as an example.
He would thus, be strengthening capacity of the youths under his care to be positioned for reconstruction plan of the Head of State for the region while growing the spirit of citizenship, participation and patriotism.
He will be joined by his Secretary General and elected delegates – Melvin Songwe and Asanga Delphine to represent the North West as delegates at the National office of Cameroon National Youth Council.
