Councillors and other party stakeholders of the area are unanimous that it is by speaking with one voice and deliberating for the common good of the people that development and progress will follow suit.
If Tombel is today one of the envied localities in the South West region that is enjoying relative calm and tranquillity despite the sporadic attacks carried out here and there by separatists in other parts of the crisis-hit anglophone regions, it is thanks to the collective effort of the population. The political elite have constantly sought to mend the cracks of disintegration, which threaten the social fabric and undermine actions geared towards improving the conditions of locals. It is in that same spirit that Mbulle Valentine, CPDM Section president for Kupe Muanenguba III in Tombel brought together the Mayor, deputies and councillors of Tombel Council, WCPDM and YCPDM section presidents and other party stakehholders around the same table to discuss and chart a way out of their misunderstandings.
During the meeting that took place in the council hall on 16 June 2023, various speakers pinpointed disgruntlements which according to the Section president were legitimate demands and needed to be looked into. Noting that challenges abound in all spheres of life, Mbulle Valentine reminded the stakeholders that they were working under the banner of the CPDM Party. It was thus incumbent on them to guard against actions that would haunt them in the future especially with regards to the general welfare of the community. He cited article 59 of the Bylaws of the CPDM and its specialised organs which highlights the place and roles of elected officials and which he stressed distinguished the functioning of the CPDM from other political parties. As a party that supports republican values, the councillors and other party militants were cautioned to envisage the stakes of 2025.
The Section President used the occasion to remind the councillors that “they are not councillors for themselves, they represent the people. I urge you to deliberate to develop Tombel and not champion your own parochial interests. We are here as a party and so I advise that we move together because now more than ever before, we need to quell discordant notes and harmonise our vision for the development of our people”.
In a bid to rekindle the Party flame in the hearts of councillors of the Tombel Council, Mbulle Valentine, applauded them for accepting to turn a new page and encouraged the respect of values of all political actors and the party hierarchy and support party decisions. “What is binding us all is the fact that we all belong to the CPDM which is a well structured party and if we cannot carry out a simple task given to us then we are a failure”. Councillors lauded the CPDM Section president’s initiative and resolved to contribute their own quota to nation building through decisions made at the level of the council.
