The UK Section President of the CPDM alongside other militants paid tribute to the fallen SDF Chairman, at a ceremony organised in Manchester City.
Militants of the CPDM wherever they find themselves strive to uphold the ideals of the party in all circumstances. Apart from holding statutory meetings and discussing ways of furthering the party’s political agenda, its militants also share in happy and sad moments of fellow compatriots. It was within this framework that those of the UK and Northern Ireland Section under their President Grace Elone turned up at the tribute ceremony in honour of late Ni John Fru Ndi, organised by the chairman’s family based there. Their presence was testimony of the fact that the CPDM as a rallying party stands by Cameroonians no matter their political leanings. Fru Ndi was an emblematic figure in the history of Cameroon and as one who stood for peace and championed the wellbeing of Cameroonians, it was but normal for his countrymen to gather to celebrate him.
Counting themselves amongst the over 400 guests that turned up, CPDM militants of the UK Section as well as those of the North East Sub Section flanked their leader to honour the memory of the former SDF Chairman. In her tribute to Fru Ndi, Grace Elone said “he embodied and personalised peace, love, unity and decency in the public and political lives”. Fru Ndi was described as a pathfinder as his steadfast drive for democracy knew no bounds. His love for his country and his efforts in bringing change marked his passage on the political landscape of Cameroon. In the spirit of togetherness, Grace Elone thus mobilised fellow comrades of the ruling party in the UK to demonstrate love and unity which the CPDM under President Paul Biya upholds.
Since the demise of Fru Ndi on 12 June 2023, there has been an outpour of tributes from Cameroonians of all walks of life. Jean Nkuete, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPDM had paid a condolence visit to the family and described Fru Ndi as a great statesman.
This show of concern by the CPDM towards other Cameroonians of different political chapels is a clear demonstration of its rallying nature.
