A Foundation to immortalize and perpetuate the works of retired Colonel Sunday Nfor, father to the current General Manager of Camtel Judith Sunday epse Achidi, has been launched.
It was inaugurated early September in Nkambe at a ceremony chaired by Donga Mantung Senior Divisional Officer Dr Nkwenti Simon in the presence of other local administrative, religious and traditional authorities. The launch was preceded by a semi marathon race orbiting Nkambe, headquarters of the division – with huge participation from the community. At least 1500 pupils and students turned out for the foundation launch in the company of Council officials of the five subdivsional councils that make up Donga Mantung: Nkambe, Ako, Misaje, Ndu and Nwa. Designated as focal points for the Foundation, these council officials identified vulnerable schoolchildren in their municipalities on which basis the Foundation was able to support for their schooling this academic year. Some 2000 pupils and students received school aid from the Foundation. The material assistance consisted of exercise books, pens, school bags and more.
The Foundation’s Chairperson Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi says the works of charity reflect the life her father led. “My late dad all through his life was very passionate about supporting the vulnerable. He was always very preoccupied with kids of school going age staying back home for lack of means. Since his death a few years back we as a family have been reflecting on ways to best sustain his works and love for the needy. That is how we resolved to set up this Foundation. We have started gradually and we hope by next year we will be able to do more and touch many more lives in Donga Mantung and why not beyond?” she declared.
For his part, Donga Mantung SDO Dr. Nkwenti Simon emphasized that education should continue to be that cherished item that makes the people of Donga Mantung great.
Later in the afternoon same day, the entire Nkambe town emptied itself to the municipal stadium for the final of the Mafor Judth Yah Sunday Epse Achidi’s cup. The tournament was played in the five sub divisions that make up donga Mantung and the denouement was kept for Nkambe twining with the Foundation launch. FCFA 5000 000 was up for grabs thanks to the Foundation’s Chairperson. The tournament which was at its third edition is a means according the donor to keep youths of the division united for a peaceful environment. A local squad Bafana Bafana won the trophy after scoring two more penalties than Buca Junior.
