The Mezam IV (Bafut) WCPDM section President Chesi Miriam Lum Njibamum has offered school needs to over 250 pupils in Bafut in Mezam division of the North West region.
Besides being the leader of the women’s wing of the party Mrs Chesi Miriam is also First Deputy Mayor of the Bafut council. Through the Smile Educational Foundation, SEF, the female politician offered schools needs ahead of reopening on September 3, 2023 – comprising of bags, pens, pencils, rulers and erasers to over 250 pupils in Bafut.
The children came from primary schools in Mankanikong, Mbebili and Nsoh villages in Bafut.
The event pulled a massive turnout from the puipils and parents. « 165 pupils were registered but when we arrived on the ground they were more than that number. Thank God that we had made provision to cover unforeseen, » Mrs Chesi Miriam revealed.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude and promised to do well in school. The donations touched widows, orphans and other needy children. « We are very garetful for the books. I did not have the money to buy books for my grand children. One is in the nursery and two are in the primary section. We were also given food stuff (by the foundation). Our kids will no longer go to school hungry », Ngum Vivian a grand parent said. Teachers received didactic materials too.
The Smile Educational Foundation thinks having an eligntened community could be achieved through education. « We do not want any child to stay behind come September 3, 2023 (date of school resumption), » Mrs Chesi Miriam said.
The Director SEF Chesi Chenwi Afanwi said the decision to assist Bafut children was because of the « untold suffering and hardship » that the crisis has caused with kids being victims. The initiative according to SEF Director is meant to « take off the load of sending back children to school from the parents. » The organisation is hoping to extend its largesse to students next academic year.
