Teachers have been called upon to remain relentless in grooming Cameroonian youths because the government is certainly looking into their grievances and are working towards bettering their living and working conditions
As concerns teachers of basic education, Minister Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa said that 13585 contract teachers are being taken care of as concerns housing and family allowances, to the tune of 16 billion FCFA and a whooping sum of 4.3billion has already been paid. Pr Nalova Lyonga of secondary education confirmed that the situation of 21102 personnel has been regularized since June 2022, she said “the scheduled payments of arrears have been executed completely. People who were receiving 2/3 of their salaries are now receiving complete salaries”. Minister Joseph Le revealed that 3177 new teachers have been integrated into the public service this 2023 and over 747 advancement decisions have already been signed. The Minister of Finance quipped grievances involved 4439 teachers and so far, allowances worth 54 billion have already been paid. “They are still expecting more and we have a plan to pay on a monthly basis. I will instruct my collaborators in the ministry of finance, to see if we can do more to shorten the delay” Minister Louis Paul Motaze explained.
The government is thus determined to complete this process and reassure Cameroonians that the education of young Cameroonians is a priority as well as the wellbeing of teachers in Cameroon.
This was during a press conference held at the auditorium of the ministry of communication last week, where seven government ministers gathered to tell the country what has been done by the government so far, as concerns the demands made by the teachers last year. This comes at a time when Cameroon is joining the international community to celebrate the international teacher’s day on 5th October 2023.
This day is celebrated with the aim of raising awareness about the role of teachers in providing quality education at all levels and improving the situation of teachers.
