The British High Commissioner to Cameroon was at the Central Committee of the CPDM on 15 December 2023.
In 2024, London will play host to the UK-African In[1]vestment Summit. The sum[1]mit will bring together Heads of State and Govern[1]ment from 24 African countries with British and African busi[1]ness leaders. It will strengthen UK-African partnerships to cre[1]ate jobs and growth, supporting British and African talent in sec[1]tors such as finance and tech[1]nology, and promote women entrepreneurs. Cameroon will most certainly participate in the summit and this amongst others featured in the discussion between Jean Nkuété, Secretary General of the Central Commit[1]tee and H.E. Barry Lowen, who made a brief but very important stop over last December 15 at the CPDM Party’s Headquar[1]ters. Cameroon and Britain both be[1]long to the Gentlemen’s club and enjoy fruitful bilateral rela[1]tions which both men reviewed in a convivial atmosphere. H.E. Barry Lowen expressed joy at having met and discussed with the Secretary General of the CPDM, the vice-prime minister Jean Nkuété. « The CPDM plays an important role in the country. We discussed our historical links, the strength of our current win[1]win partnership and the potential to develop our partnership even more as two fellow members of the Commonwealth family and as countries with these similar objectives for the development of our partnership » he said. Regarding commercial partnership, both men furthered talks on the upcoming UK-African investment summit, which will be an evident oppor[1]tunity to increase investment. « So, we are looking forward to Cameroonian participation in that », Barry Lowen added. The Sum[1]mit will build on the results of the UK-African Investment Summit 2020 and virtual UK[1]African Investment Conferences in 2021 and 2022. The UK[1]African Investment Summit 2020 marked an important milestone in partnerships with African countries and announced over £6.5 billion of deals, plus a further £8.9 billion of investment commitments. Summit aims to promote 2-way trade and investment, creating jobs and growth and supporting women entrepreneurs. The CPDM as a political party has great consideration for youths and women. Given the numerous areas of cooperation between Cameroon and Britain, the issue of empowering youths was also brought to the table and to Mr. Barry Lowen « I really benefited from His Excellency’s analysis about his engagement with young people, which is so important for the future of any country… We also discussed the strength of our defence cooperation and so many other topics. I leave with a real optimism for our future partnership».
