Revision of Electoral Register : Sections Pick Up Task

Section presidents, one of the key actors, in the implementation of directives from the Secretary General Jean Nkuété, have begun work to ensure CPDM registers militants and sympathizers of the party against future elections.

Permanent divisional delegations are taking the lead, in line with the coordination role assigned to them by the secretary general in the circular published on January 10, 2024.
Like other permanent divisional delegation that of Momo division has set the ball rolling. The division kicked of the meeting with a meeting. Section presidents, members of parliament, and senator, mayors and other key stakeholders for Momo division gathered around the Head of the Permanent divisional delegation Minister Mbah Acha Rose at her office in Yaounde. “After the publication of the circular of the secretary general His Excellency Jean Nkuété, the head of the Momo Permanent divisional delegation, Minister Mbah Acha Rose convened a meeting of all section presidents, mayors, MPs and Senator for a meeting in her office, where we brainstormed,” the section president of Momo I (Mbengwi) Sanji Joseph confirmed to L’Action. Here, several recommendations were made to the section presidents. One of the recommendations “was to get in touch with our sub section, branch, and cell presidents and to get in contact with Elections Cameroon, ELECAM,” Mr Sanji said.
“As far as Momo I (Mbengwi) [in Momo division of the North West region] is concerned we’ve contacted Elecam. That sets the tune for us to work together,” the section president said. “We appointed some members to work with Elecam and they have met with the officials of the election management body in Mbengwi”.
Now the section authorities are focused on coordinating the cell, branch and sub section presidents, for these party officials to encourage militants that are yet to register to do so. “We also have new members of the party that we are encouraging to get their names on the electoral registers,” he said. “Our effort, in conformity with the circular of the secretary general is to get more militants registered,” the section president added. The section heralds a unique message to the members of the party: a real and active militant is one who has registered and is ready to vote for upcoming elections.
With the volatile security situation in the Mbengwi sub division, section authorities are using phone calls, WhatsApp, and other means of communication to get to the militants and sympathizers. Results of these efforts could become visible in a close future. “In the next two weeks we will be able to assess the level at which we have carried out the task assigned to the section authorities, and we can start having figures,” the section president said. With the crisis in the region, the task could herculean for the section authorities. “But we shall overcome by doing our best as always,” the section president said.
