In a demonstration of empathy, militants of the CPDM Mezam IV Section- Bafut recently visited inmates of Bafut origin at the Bamenda Central Prison.
This visit aimed to offer encouragement, hope, and essential supplies to these individuals during their time of incarceration. In a touching display of compassion and solidarity, the militants led by the Section President and Mayor of Bafut Council, Ngwakongoh Lawrence said this gesture was a reminder to the inmates of Bafut origin that the party stands with them during their difficult times, showing care and concern beyond their political engagement.
Supplies such as rice, plantains, toiletries, and cooking oil were presented to the inmates as support to them during their confinement. These were warmly received by a representative of the inmates who expressed gratitude on behalf of others and pledged their commitment to obeying the law while serving their sentences.
Party officials, among them, Chesi Lum Miriam, WCPDM Section President, and Anyelle Gordon, a member of the North West Regional Assembly, took turns to encourage the inmates to find meaning in their lives despite their current circumstance. The officials emphasized the importance of abiding by the law, respecting prison regulations, and utilizing their time constructively to acquire new skills through available opportunities.
“We came to encourage our brothers and sisters from Bafut extraction at the Bamenda Central Prison to know that being here is not the end of the world. We need them back home to build a better Bafut, stronger in unity. We encouraged them to be law abiding, respect the rules of the correctional facility and use their time gainfully in the workshops to gain skills,” Anyelle Gordon said.
Prison Superintendent, Asaah-Ngu Mbah Walter, in charge of the Bamenda Central Prison, extended his appreciation to the CPDM delegation, noting the rarity of such visits by political parties. He humbly appealed for more visits, emphasizing the impact of their support in inspiring hope among the inmates.
Responding to a specific appeal, the CPDM team returned to the Bamenda Central Prison the following day to provide delivery kits and financial assistance to a pregnant inmate. The expectant mother, deeply moved by the timely help, expressed her gratitude and described the CPDM members as true servants of the people.
This compassionate outreach by the CPDM Mezam IV Section, Bafut exemplifies the party’s commitment to social responsibility and highlights the importance of extending support to marginalized individuals in society. The gesture serves as an inspiration for other political elites in Cameroon to prioritize the well-being of all citizens, particularly those in challenging circumstances.
