Jean Nkuété, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPDM made the appeal during the meeting with the CPDM parliamentary group ahead of the election of the new bureau.
Traditionally, the CPDM hierarchy meets with MPs before the election of the new bureau in parliament, to present those endorsed by the party to occupy the various elective positions. This formality was respected last 22 March 2024, ahead of the plenary sitting scheduled at the National Assembly to elect members of the bureau for the new legislative year. In a decision of Jean Nkuété read out by the Secretary for Communication Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, the scribe of the party kept Roger Melingui as the chief whip of the CPDM parliamentary group. He will be assisted in the office by Hon. Etombi Gladys. As Minister Fame Ndongo read the names, applause from the MPs punctuated the script, a sign that the elected officials were okay with the choice of hierarchy. Before the chief whip Roger Melingui took over from the eldest Member of Parliament Hon Mfegue, he thanked the National President Paul Biya for his impulse in their casting. As expected, those chosen were acclaimed and the National Assembly bureau is in place with Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril as Speaker alongside five of the six vice presidents of the august Chamber. A new face in the pool of secretaries is Bara Julien, who now replaces Madeleine Silikam who passed into glory.
These positions are awarded to the CPDM thanks to its crushing majority in the house and in respect of the standing orders of the National Assembly. Each March session a new bureau is elected.
The people’s representatives have been cautioned by Jean Nkuété to take business at the National Assembly seriously. Through their actions that involve the scrutiny of bills and the follow-up of government action, the MPs under the CPDM ticket contribute in ameliorating the lives of Cameroonians.
