The call was made recently by Hon. Stephen Ujambeng Andong, Divisional representative for Momo.
The decision was taken recently in Bamenda during the 14th North West Regional Assembly meeting held last week, under the chairemanship of Prof. Fru Fobuzshi Angwafo III, president. The session was dedicated to discussions on the 2023 performance accounts. It took place in the presence of the Governor of the North west region, representative of state Adolph Lele Lafrique along side top administrative, civil and security officers. Ujamben Stephen Andong, divisional representative for Momo division was also present and presented the situation issues pertaining to the progress made in Momo division since 2023. «The level of project execution in my area, Momo division for example are very poor », he said. To him if the right thing is done, peace will return in this area and many more. « I wish to talk about the roads in Momo division where I come from, It is hell, to say the least. What peace are we going to be talking about to people who are suffering in the villages », he questioned. He insisted that they should be pracmatic thereby « sought ways to enable villagers to come out with their farm produce to town successfully ».
He proposed that the state could use him and others as accets towards peace building « we cannot keep on preaching peace without working towards peace. I am using my self as an example because I miraculously escaped from an Ababazonian hostage camp », he revealed. « If there are other people who have had the same experience or who have been rescured from such a dangerous and life thretening situation, they should be used as asserts to gather information », he emphasized. These people will be able propose ideas on how they can really work on this situation and before long the lasting peace which is sought will be attained, within the region and by extension in Cameroon. The North west regional assembly was put in place in 2021. It is one of the fallouts of the Major National Dialogue. It is expected to work to bring back peace in the restive North west region, but so fa far, the results still fall short of expectations.
