Sons and daughters of the nine villages of Njikwa sub division will on Saturday April 13 converge on the Military Esplanade Up station in Bamenda for their first ever solidarity festival.
A brainchild of the Elite of the Njikwa subdivision under the Patronage of Akebe Emmanuel, Mayor of the Njikwa municipal council the festival aims at reinforcing the spirit of love, unity and solidarity. It is also going to be an opportunity to showcase, rekindle the cultural flame and Fastrack development in the municipality. The event will bring together traditional rulers from the nine villages that make up the sub division alongside the population, the elite and presidents of village development associations. It will be a time for the Njikwa people to reaffirm their togetherness, encourage those of theirs who have fled their homes to come back. This will also be a unique opportunity to brainstorm on the development of the municipality.
The development of Njikwa sub division has stagnated over the years even before the outbreak of the crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon based on the people’s inability to agree on some common but crucial developmental aspects. During this festival presidents of the different development associations from all the nine villages of Oshie, Ngwo, Konda, Bakwa, Ekweri, Bassa, Bakoh, Banya, Ekwebo will be talking about their respective efforts to bring lasting development in their different villages. Based on this, the municipality’s think tank will figure out areas where federated efforts will be required to bring necessary solutions.
Njikwa municipality has suffered a delay in its development walk due to the crisis. Villagers who fled due to fear are still reluctant to regain their homes. The ones who are there have been misdirected by selfish leaders who didn’t have love for the sub division and so sowed seeds of discord. A mental overhaul and a recalibration of the people’s mindset is of utmost importance. It is hoped and believed that this solidarity festival will be a turning point in the history of Njikwa. The elite and the mayor will hitherto as a matter of priority put the growth and development of Njikwa at the fore.
The organizers of this event plan to use a stone for two birds. They will bring Elecam teams to register potential voters in preparation for upcoming elections.
Major activities at the festival will include, a huge display of the cultural values of the Njikwa people through songs, dance, Sketches and more.
