CPDM senator and the ruler of Kumba, in Meme division of the South West region, used his contact tour of the 56 quarters under his authority, to canvass for voter registration, as well as preached unity and living together.
Senator Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko, chief of Kumba and paramount ruler of the Bafaw tribe, was on the field last week to meet and discuss development issues with the different quarters under his traditional authority, across the three subdivisions of the city of Kumba. The meet the people contact tour is the first ever since the chief took over the traditional stool from his late father. The tour targets quarter heads and the inhabitants residing in the respective quarters.
Key on the agenda of the tour was to drum for voter registration, while at the same time preaching peace, love and unity among the different tribes that live in Kumba. The tour took the traditional ruler through Kumba III, where the appointed quarter heads mobilised their quarters to receive the senator and his delegation. They continue to Kumba II, visiting the Kosala and Fiango neighborhoods, and then rounding up the tour with Kumba I, that host the traditional stool, as well as the Meme Divisional headquarters.
During the tour, the Senator expressed the accomodating spirit of the Bafaw tribe, who remain very welcoming to settlers. He said Kumba has continued to grow to a mega city because of the contribution of settlers, who go about their activities without any disturbance.
He said “ to continue to make Kumba stand tall, the population must participate in the democratic process of the Country. It is our collective responsibilities to participate in elections by voting for the right candidates who can bring development to our city. That is why I am calling on all to get their names register in the Elecam register. Next year will be a very challenging one for our democracy, with almost four elections on program. Kumba must not be indifferent. We must support our visionary leader, who has steadily piloted the affairs of this nation for many years. Democracy is all about number, that is why our registration must reflect the growing number of the Kumba population”.
As a senator appointed by the Head of State, Nfon Mukete urged his subjects to count on him for development projects, as he stand a better place to lobby for great projects for the population of Kumba.
He pleaded with the population to exhibit the spirit of love for one another, shun all forms of violence, and stand as one to kick out separatists from the city of Kumba.
The quarter heads saluted the chief for the tour and said the visit has cemented their authorities in their respective quarters. They put forth different challenges facing their quarters with most bearing on development issues.
