To ensure an effective school year in Lebialem Division, elite of the different subdivisions have raised huge sums to assist for a smooth academic year. Closed to FCFA 15.000.000 has been raised by the three subdivisions of Alou, Fontem and Wabane. Political elite, traditional, administrative and civil society all contributed in the realization of the said amount.
The coordinators of the exercise said the money will be used to provide didactic materials to schools as well as assist underprivileged kids.
Going by the statistics of school reopening as presented by the Divisional Delegates of Secondary and Basic Education for Lebialem, there is a significant improvement in the number of functional schools this year. Many Nursery, primary and secondary schools across the Division have opened their doors this academic year, with Seat of Wisdom College Fontem being outstanding.
As of now, Lebialem Division can pride itself of functional schools across the three subdivisions, which was not the case in the past years. The Divisional head quarter of Menji has regained its status, with life blossoming across. Because of the functional schools, most of the population that flee to other neighboring towns have returned. Other socio economic activities have taken off, like village markets reopening.
The efforts of the State, the councils and the population in restoring damaged state and private properties is fast yielding fruits in Lebialem. Recently closed to FCFA10 million was raised by the elite to maintain bad spots along the Alou-Menji stretch. This activity allowed heavy duty vehicles to ply the road through out the rainy season, easing the evacuation of cocoa produced to the market.
It should be noted that political elite of the division headed by Minister Paul Tasong, Honourable Bernard Foju, Senator Lekunze, the mayors of Alou, Fontem and Wabane, CPDM section president of Lebialem II, are the driving forces behind all the different projects realized through community efforts.
