Enow Abrams Egbe has lauded the dedication of Elections Cameroon staff for North West in their efforts to raise the number of potential voters in the Region.
Speaking to election stakeholders during his visit to Bamenda, January 22, at the ELECAM auditorium Up Station, Enow Abrams applauded the hard work of the Regional Delegate of ELECAM, Mbowoh Elvis and his team, registering over 27,000 new voters in 2024. “The Board is highly impressed with what the Regional Delegate of Northwest ELECAM has achieved,” the Board Chair hailed. He further solicited the collaboration of stakeholders for a successful organization of elections this year. “We solicit your total collaboration and support as we move towards the presidential elections. This will permit us to have free and transparent elections,” he appealed.
The Regional Delegate of ELECAM North West, Mbowoh Elvis, for his part, presented a comprehensive report on challenges and achievements in the discharge of their daily duties in the Region. Among others, he raised the issue of insecurity which continues to perturb voter registration in areas considered “red zones”.
In his response, ELECAM Board Chairman, challenged his regional collaborators to leverage on community stakeholders and expand work to difficult terrains for inclusive elections this year. “The so-called Green zones are not static. So, push out green zones from your mind. Elections are not for party A or B. Register now, and work towards the path of peace. We are not here to dish out lessons. The election is not war. We should be prepared. We are preparing for all the elections at all times for elections,” he stressed.
Stakeholders at the meeting comprising Parliamentarians, party representatives, councilors and civil society organisations were told that Mezam registered the highest number of potential voters in the North West. It was further stressed that some 44,000 voter’s cards have not been collected, and a new target of 45,000 has been assigned the North West.
This far, the Regional Delegate revealed that 2,384 new voters had registered in the Region. The Delegate aligned their success to collaboration with civil administrators in the terrain who provide accommodation for their registration materials and staff. The Board Chair admonished stakeholders to continue to sensitize the population to consider registering for elections a civic right. “I must congratulate the North West people for being resilient. Do you know, despite the problems that this region is facing, North West emerged first in the country as far as Voter Registration is concerned? By July, Registration of voters will be closed,” Enow Abrams shared on a light-hearted note.
