Climate Finance and Entrepreneurship : Parliamentarians Join Forces

In its commitment to sustainable development, the Network of Parliamentarians for the Sustainable Management of Central African Ecosystems (REPAR) recently convened a Parliamentary Forum on Climate Finance at the Paul Biya Glass House.

The forum brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including government officials, environmental organizations, and international institutions, to address the pressing issues of climate change and the critical need for access to climate funds.

The event commenced with a powerful short film illustrating the devastating impacts of climate change, setting the tone for discussions that followed. The forum highlighted the urgent need for Cameroon and Central Africa to enhance their access to climate financing, presenting proposed strategies that could pave the way for sustainable development in the region. This focus on financial accessibility is crucial, as it enables countries to implement effective climate adaptation and mitigation measures.

Collaboration emerged as a key theme throughout the forum, with presentations from prominent organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). These discussions underscored the importance of partnerships in tackling climate challenges, emphasizing that a united front is essential for meaningful progress.

In a complementary effort, the National Assembly hosted a workshop organized by the Network of Parliamentarians for the Promotion of Private Entrepreneurship. This workshop focused on the awareness, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of business incubators, aiming to equip stakeholders with vital tools to foster entrepreneurship and economic growth. Participants engaged deeply with the concepts of business incubators, gaining insights into effective implementation strategies and evaluation methods.

Ministerial presentations from the Minister of Labour and Social Security and the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education further enriched the workshop, offering practical tools for monitoring and evaluating entrepreneurial initiatives. A significant milestone was achieved with the signing of a support and assistance agreement for the Youth Dimension of the IPES Entrepreneurial Initiative in Municipalities and Regions, marking a progressive step towards promoting entrepreneurship across the nation.
