The down Beach locality affected recently hit by the cholera epidemic, will in the days ahead have four modern toilets from the Limbe city council
To prevent further occurrence of the cholera epidemic, that recently hit some neighbourhoods of Limbe, the city mayor in collaboration with the sub divisional Councils, will in the days ahead embark on the construction of four blocks of modern toilet facilities and some modern stalls in the Down Beach neighborhood.
The Down Beach neighborhood that was recently hit by cholera, it should be noted is the main area of leisure and tourism, where economic activities flourishes in the city of Limbe. It is also a fishing port for hundreds of fishermen and the gate way into the Atlantic Ocean.
To ensure that visitors, business operators, and residents of the neighbourhood are secured and protected, the city mayor, Paul Efome Lisombe Ngale, believe that only a clean and healthy environment, can guarantee safety. The four blocks of modern toilet, will add to the lone existing block to make a total of five blocks.
The city mayor, Paul Efome Lisombe Ngale, while on a site visit to locate the different spots were the toilets will be constructed said: “It is rather unfortunate that the entire Down Beach neighbourhood, that receives hundreds of visitors daily, could have only one block of toilet. This alone created much health challenges to visitors and business operators there. The recent cholera outbreak that was so severe in the area, was due to the unhealthy nature of the place. The four blocks of modern toilet will better serve the population and will reduce the risk of further epidemic. The city council has taken other measures to ensure that the area is always clean and welcoming to visitors. Hence, business operators will have to clean their surroundings twice a day, under the strict supervision of the city council staffs.”
Apart from the modern toilet facility, the city council will also embark on the construction of modern stalls, to add beauty to the touristic site, as well as to boost revenue for the city council.
