Vote registration : Babessi on Rails

CPDM Local authorities in the Ngoketunjia III Section in Babessi are taking full advantage of the holiday period to ensure they register eligible voters before the allocated time for the exercise runs out.

They have had a series of meetings, during which they agreed to use the holidays to recruit a maximum number of eligible voters for all the three wings of the party in the section. They have tasked themselves to do this before the registration period for this year runs out in August. According to the section president, David Chindong “The CPDM is faring well in our section; all we need do is to bring in more militants in preparation for any eventual election in the future. Unlike the previous years when militants feared to express their political attachment for security reasons, they are regaining their confidence with the return of peace and normal life. We have also been meeting with them one –on- one to remind them of their civic responsibility especially. Our main target is the youth who have attained voting age”, he said.
To achieve this goal, they have been taking advantage of popular joints every people gather such as market places, bars, eateries to corner potential voters and drive home their message. In the words of the section president “We know for a fact that the registration calendar in Cameroon runs from January to august every year and as it stands the month of august is fast approaching and there is need to gain time by making use of every available opportunity”, Chindong insisted.
The exercise is being carried out by every wing of the CPDM in Babessi. To that effect, the women’s wing under the leadership of Winifred Nalim Nyoh is making use of women associations and Njangi groups to educate women on the need to register. The YCPDM president, Tatangang Abdel Aziz has a more daunting task of mobilizing the youths during this period. They are thus making use of the holiday activities involving youths such as football, clean-up campaign sessions to reach the youths.
The results so far are promising as per the section president but “we plan to make this an every militant business especially as the strategy of man to man is proving to be very productive,” Chindong revealed.
The section has always responded positively and en mass in all elections in favor of the CPDM. This is the reason why the authorities on the field are confident that their message will fall on fertile ground and in return the party will reap the desired fruits.
