2023 Senatorial Elections : Casting is On

It is a crucial moment for the CPDM as the Party will put out its best arsenal to sort out and endorse candidates worth the salt for the job that awaits them at the Senate.

The convening of Electoral College for the Senatorial elections slated for 12 March 2023 did not take the CPDM by surprise. The Party has been working in anticipation and so too have candidates vying to occupy seats at the upper house of parliament, under the ticket of the CPDM. Not only have preparatory meetings been held, it is worth noting that consultations are still ongoing. While some senators will be packing out of their Chamber, new ones will be rolling in their suitcases. Now more than ever before, the stakes are high as the Party’s candidates have the daunting task of accompanying Paul Biya, Head of State and National President of the Party in his vision to ferry the country towards brighter shores. It is imperative for the CPDM to bank on men and women with satisfactory balance sheets.
Balance sheets have been drawn and while some have scored pass marks, others may not altogether be satisfying and the times call for the endorsement of people who can deliver the expected results. The hierarchy of the CPDM is aware of the challenges of the upcoming elections reason why the circular signed by the National President will serve as a guide to all the stakeholders in the process. Having assured its grip on councils during the last municipal elections, the Party is now counting on the loyalty of Regional and Municipal councilors to confirm the legitimacy of handpicked candidates on election day.
At the Party seat, the effervescence expected after the convening of the Electoral College is yet to be witnessed as all is serene. While the bulk of the work will be done at the level of regional delegations, a hive of activity is expected at the General Secretariat of the Central Committee following the publishing of the circular of the National President.
