The Secretary general of the Cpdm, René Sadi made the declaration to media practitioners yesterday October 12 at the party’s head quarter.
Following the transparent and calm presidential election of last Sunday October 9, the Secretary general of the Cameroon’s people democratic movement has reiterated that “Cameroonians expressed their choices in liberty and responsibility”. The press briefing took place in the conference hall of the Secretary general. Insisting that the election unfolded in serenity and peace, he said “the election represents an unequivocal leap and a significant progress in the growth of our democracy”. To him, the coming on stage of Elections Cameroon as an independent organ (for the first time) is salutary. In his declaration, he opined that Elecam worked with “impartiality, seriousness, competence and was fully conscious of the stakes and challenges involved in the process”. In line with the Head of State’s call on Cameroonians to be indulgent towards eventual farces of Elecam, Mr Sadi announced that “the Cpdm praises Elecam for her laudable performance… It was her very first assignment”. On the basis of what precedes, he thanked the militants and sympathizers of the Cpdm as well as all political parties that are in alliance with the Cameroon people’s democratic movement. He used the opportunity to say kudos to all Cpdm militants on behalf of the party’s candidate, Mr Paul Biya. He equally praised the other stakeholders of the electoral process notably the administration, civil society, religious and traditional institutions that contributed in making the process successful. He later urged them to continue accompanying Cameroon in the ongoing democratic process and the consolidation of peace and preservation of stability.
In objectivity, he recognized that despite the transparency that marked the election, there were few errors in the organization which, in any case cannot put to question the overall conduct of the election. “We deplore the limited acts of violence that took place on election day”, he said. In this connection, he mentioned the killing of Virginie Djemo in the Koung-Khi division (West region) on grounds that she openly unveiled her joy upon hearing that her candidate, Paul Biya was leading in the polling station where she cast her vote. He firmly hammered that “we firmly condemn such acts in a democracy and we use this opportunity to present our heartfelt condolence to the family of the deceased”.
In like manner, he announced the grief and sorrow of the Cpdm vis a vis the death of two soldiers of the national gendarmerie in the Bakassi zone on the day of the election while accomplishing their professional duties. As Cameroon awaits the official proclamation of the results, the Cpdm through the voice of Mr Sadi is calling on all Cameroonians to be fully vigilant in a bid to preserve peace in Cameroon. “I also call on media practitioners to show proof of objectivity and responsibility in reporting on the election”, he cautioned. He rounded off by insisting that the Cpdm is proud of the maturity and responsibility of all Cameroonians who have once more showed to the world that “Cameroonians master their destiny”. The press briefing unfolded in the presence of Cpdm senior party official namely the deputy Secretary general of the party (Gregoire Owona), the Secretaries of communication and his deputy ( Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo and Prof Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo), and the Secretary of organization (Ibrahim Talba Malla).
