Biya Mania Sweeps North West Region : Thousands Attend Documentary Screening

The city of Bamenda, in the North West Region, witnessed an extraordinary display of enthusiasm and loyalty as thousands, including militants and sympathizers of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) gathered to screen a documentary honoring President Paul Biya’s legacy.

The event, held at the office of the Senior Divisional Officer of Mezam, on Oct. 26, drew supporters from across the region, showcasing the CPDM’s impressive mobilization. The atmosphere was electric, with supporters dancing and singing to the rhythm of drums, proudly donning CPDM attire and waving Cameroon flags.

Documentary Highlights President Biya’s Achievements
The documentary, «Paul Biya: A Great Statesman with an Extraordinary Destiny,» chronicled the President’s remarkable journey, highlighting his numerous achievements in various sectors: Health: The Universal Health Coverage program, aimed at improving access to healthcare services for Cameroonians. Security and Stability: The resolution of the Bakassi peninsula border dispute with Nigeria through the 2006 Greentree Agreement. Diplomacy: Fostered cooperation with neighbouring countries, promoting regional stability. Economy: Infrastructure development projects, such as roads, bridges, and energy initiatives, to stimulate growth and create jobs. Women’s Empowerment: Promoting women’s rights and representation, with increased participation in government and decision-making positions.

CPDM Leaders Praise Biya
Senator Regina Mundi, Acting Regional Coordinator of the CPDM, praised President Biya’s leadership, citing his «uncommon patience» and commitment to peace. «President Biya’s vision for Cameroon is unparalleled,» Senator Mundi said. «His dedication to the country’s development and stability is inspiring.» « With the Universal Health Coverage pregnant women pay just a token for child birth from the start of the pregnancy to the moment when the baby is born no matter the complication. Also, children under five enjoy free malaria treatment,» she added. The President of the North West Regional Executive, Fru Angwafo, applauded Biya’s continuous appointment of the region’s sons and daughters to high offices, demonstrating true friendship with the North West.

Special Bond with President Biya
In Bamenda, President Biya is revered as the «Fon of Fons,» a title given by traditional rulers. This affection was evident in the massive turnout of traditional rulers to watch the documentary. «I’m heading home with a positive outlook on our head of state, who has made significant strides in our country,» said Fon Azehfor III, the prominent traditional ruler of Nkwen community.
Notably, Biya renamed the Cameroon National Congress (CNU) as the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Bamenda in 1985, and declared the city his second home during the 50th anniversary of the Cameroon military in 2010. The CPDM will celebrate its ruby jubilee next year, marking a significant milestone in the party’s history. The documentary screening served as a precursor to the celebrations, energizing party militants and sympathizers.

« A statesman with lots of gifts for Cameroon«

A great and patriotic leader who has a lot in stock to pilot our country to the position of eldorado of Africa. As a visionary leader, he has weathered the storm when faced with the challenge from the border with Nigeria. He continuously ensures that our country develops in road infrastructure, education, health and cultural domains while imparting the spirit of national unity and living together all over our country. He is truly a statesman with lots of gifts for Cameroon in the near future.

I really enjoyed the documentary film on President Paul Biya. It provided a fascinating look at his life and presidency. I appreciated the insight into his leadership style and l agree with the producers on « a great statesman with an extraordinary destiny ». I was particularly impressed by his commitment to women’s empowerment. His efforts to promote peace and development was highlighted, especially on the Bakassi peninsula dispute. The documentary was a great way to educate Cameroonians about our Head of State, an important African leader and his vision for Cameroon’s future.

Senator Prof Nebah Bridget Ndosiri, WCPDM President Mezam IA

« President Biya’s commitment to women’s empowerment is commendable«

Over his 42-year tenure, Cameroon has made significant strides in education. We have grown from having just one state university to 11, accompanied by numerous secondary and primary schools. Education is virtually free, thanks to substantial state subsidies. President Biya’s commitment to women’s empowerment is commendable. Since creating the Ministry for Women’s Empowerment and the Family in 1984, women have held various elective and appointed positions. I’m proud to be a senator, joining many female mayors, parliamentarians, rectors, and ministers.
