t promises to be a life time commemoration in the Fako east     constituency      come November 6. Judging from the implication of local party stake holders of the CPDM as they give a facelift through clean up campaigns. Militants of the CPDM in the Fako east constituency and the population at large are being trained to be re- sponsible citizens at all times. The initiative of Hon. Etombi Ikome Gladys, Member of parliament for Fako east and deputy CPDM chief whip at the National Assembly. She has taken a firm stance against urban pollution, holding different meetings with the population and CPDM mili- tants to sensitize them on the need for them to join hands with her in her quest to tackle and deal with the worrisome problem of poor dirt and house hold waste management by the population. According the Hon. Etombi “Cleanliness is next to godliness, it is inadmissible that people would just throw away their good manners and set- tle for less. The town is littered with waste almost at every step and no one seems to care,” she lamented. “It is unacceptable and we are stepping out to put an end to such behaviour”, Hon. Etombi continued.

She has taken measures to salvage the situation ranging from the sensitization of the people, con- tacting officials of the company in charge of waste collection, HYSACAM for the collection of waste and the reinstitution of “cleanest Quarter” competition. Being a strong militant of the CPDM, this action is in line with preparations for the 42nd edition of the celebration of the coming to power of President Paul Biya. In her words “If the environment is clean, the people will be healthy and as they celebrate November 6, their prepa- ration for the upcoming and very crucial elections of 2025 in a healthy environ- ment will be guaranteed”. The increase in the rate of unco- ordinated waste disposal has been blamed on the upsurge in the population due to the crisis in the North west and south west re- gions. Many who fled from their previous settlement areas to Limbe and beyond have found home in Limbe. Hon. Gladys in- sists that it shouldn’t be an excuse. Limbe thus looks forward to overcome its waste management challenge and restore its former cleanliness especially following a recent announcement by Hysacam of the acquisition of a Front-end loader, expected to ease the process of clearing and loading garbage into trucks.
