Widikum : Youths Shine by Example

Keeping to their promise to foster nation building, they turned out massively to celebrate the 59th edition of the Youth Day.

The grand ceremony presided at by Ivo Chia Mungwa, Divisional Officer for Widikum sub division took place at the Catholic school esplanade. The huge attendance of youths, was credited to a great mobilization prior to the event by local administrative and political authorities. Under the leadership of Senator Francis Enwe of the Momo west constituency, they had called on the youth to show proof of their unadulterated patriotism and to come out in their numbers as a sign of a total alignment to republican values.

The calls from the Head of State, President Paul Biya on the eve of the celebration also came as another reminder. Paul Biya enjoined youths “not to let fallacious and none realisable promises sway them from their focus”. He insisted that they must not “give a listening ear to the chaos sirens sounded by some irresponsible persons”.  President Paul Biya emphasized, warning the Cameroon’s youth against “letting such people take advantage of them to achieve their wicked plans, which according to him aim at “destabilising and disrupting the peace of our dear and beautiful country”.

This warning and the several others fell on fertile ground, judging from huge youth turnout. Prior to the Head of State’s outing Senator Francis Enwe had been on the field to educate youths on the importance of holding their future dear and not trading it for lies from anybody or group of persons. Senator Enwe had insisted that this youth day be a sign of their commitment hence their total participation.

Widikum is primarily an agriculture-based locality. The youth here have the potency to thrive in farm works and palm oil production as economic activities. Senator Enwe Francis has been pushing to ensure that while they go about these daily activities. The hostile atmosphere brought by separatists is giving way. They must not lose focus of the enormous task of elections on hand. Enwe has ceaselessly insisted that youths who have attained voting age should get their names registered on the voter’s lists, a point bolstered by the Head of State in his message on February 10. The youth day in Widikum saw the attendance of youths of all categories. Religious, traditional, political authorities and the administration were all in sync with the youth to fly the national colours higher than ever.
