The Second Ordinary Session of the National Assembly for the 2025 Legislative Year has ended with Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, Speaker of the National Assembly, urging lawmakers to play a key role in ensuring peaceful and calm elections in October 2025.
As members of the National Assembly return to their constituencies, they have been tasked with mobilizing their constituents to participate in the electoral process while promoting peace and unity. “I would like to remind you that we are going out on a sacred assignment which entails mobilizing our compatriots to go all out and cast their votes at the appropriate moment…our mandate will be to preserve peace and unity”.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of preserving peace and unity in the country, particularly during the electoral period. He reminded lawmakers that their role in promoting a calm and peaceful atmosphere will be crucial in ensuring the success of the elections.
As the lawmakers disperse to their constituencies, they carry with them the responsibility of promoting peace and unity among their constituents. The Speaker’s call to action underscores the significance of maintaining stability and cohesion in the country, even in the face of electoral disputes.
During the session, the National Assembly passed three bills and held a budget policy debate session for the 2026 Financial Year. The House also administered the Oath of Office to Madam Ouli Ndongo Monique, who was appointed Member of the Constitutional Council by the Head of State.
The upcoming presidential election in October 2025 is a critical moment for Cameroon, and members of the National Assembly are aware of their role in ensuring a peaceful and transparent process as representatives of the people. In the face of political competition, MPs especially those under the CPDM ticket have relented no efforts in galvanizing their various constituents in doing the needful by carrying out their civic duty of effectively registering and voting on election day.
