The lone female Section President in the South West region, remain upbeat that with the level of mobilization and sensitization, the CPDM party in Kumba III, in Meme Division, is set to trash the opposition come October 12. Barrister Victorine Ebanja Esuka Balike, is counting first on the numerical strength of the women who formed about 65 percent of the population, and secondly by the physical transformation of Kumba III, by the government.
The section president revealed to L’Action that the party is alive and kicking. » Since elected into office in 2020, I took the bull by the horns, given that the position of Section president has never been held by a woman. It becomes more challenging further because the council was formerly run by the opposition. Convincing the locals to come on board was not easy, but through support from party officials in Meme, we have been able to consolidate our position. This presidential election is a litmus test for my team. Beating the opposition will be a big achievement for me. We will beat them in the presidential and beat them again in next year’s municipal and parliamentary elections ».
Winning the October presidential election is a great challenge to the section president and her team, as it will act as a proof that women can equally do as men. Being a former strong hold of the opposition SDF, the majority of women believe that it is their time. With less than three months to go, the section president stated » our section is now very secured. Most of the villages that used to harbor criminals are now free and safe. We have been able to tour all these villages without any threat, reason I say we are a ready to beat the opposition and secure a landslide victory for our President come October 12 « .
The elections of Victorine Ebanja Balike as section president, serve as a booster and pulling force to most disgruntled women who had left the CPDM party because they feel isolated. Women who formed a great majority of the militants believed that this is their time to grab the mayoral position as well as the parliamentary seat. As the head of the section, most women feel belonging, and oblige to participate actively in all party activities, as they see it as their era to shine.
