Charity Begins at Home : PM Rallies South West for Biya

The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Dr Chief Joseph Dion Ngute, has urged the people of the South West Region to give President Paul Biya an overwhelming victory in the October 12 presidential election.

The Prime Minister, who hails from Ndian Division in the South West Region has been leading a vigorous mobilisation drive across the region. On Saturday, September 13, he met delegations from Manyu, Lebialem, Kupe Muanenguba, Meme and Fako Divisions in Buea. Earlier, on Friday, September 12, he presided over a strategic session with Ndian elite and representatives of all nine Subdivisions.

The meetings brought together elected officials, mayors, councillors, members of the Regional Assembly, parliamentarians, traditional rulers, youth leaders, women’s groups, and business operators. The message was clear: unity behind the CPDM candidate. Dion Ngute reminded participants of the stakes of the October poll aying that South Westerners must speak with one voice by throwing their full weight behind Biya’s candidacy. “We must remain united, focused and disciplined. The only way forward is to back the President who has done so much for this country and for this region,” he told delegates.

The PM said the mobilisation launched on July 26 had gained momentum and described his intervention as “the icing on the cake.” He called on all militants and sympathisers to transform words into action by turning out massively on polling day. In Buea, Dion Ngute rallied his home constituency of Ndian. The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Mary Meboka, told the meeting that Biya’s record in national leadership and his gesture of forgiveness towards youths who had rebelled against the state were signs of fatherly wisdom. “With all what the President has done, Ndian cannot turn its back on him. We will not let him down,” she declared. Other voices in the delegation reaffirmed their loyalty. Confiance Ebune Balungeli, Minister and Director of Cabinet at the PM’s Office, said Ndian’s path to the election was clear – full alignment with Biya. PAMOL’s General Manager, Mbile Tapea Solomon, thanked the Head of State for sustaining the agro-industrial giant through difficult times. Mayor Ekenue Samuel Osang of Mundemba described Biya as “the one who knows the way,” insisting that following him was a duty. Youth leader Njemoh Derek Ndoh likened support for Biya to a “religion” in Ndian, stressing that they stood ready to deliver a resounding victory.

Delegations from other divisions also used the platform to report on preparations and difficulties. Minister Victor Mengot Arrey, who led Manyu’s delegation, said the division had suffered power cuts after its generator failed, affecting water supply. He, however, expressed confidence the problem would soon be resolved. Throughout the sessions, speakers stressed that the CPDM’s strength lay in its grassroots. They argued that every vote would count and urged militants to ignore attempts at destabilisation.
