The Mayor of Santa Council, HRH Samkie Elvis Gahnyam II, on Friday presided over the opening of the Ordinary Session dedicated to the examination and adoption of the 2025 Administrative, Management and Stores Accounts, held at the Santa Council Town Hall – Mezam, North West Region.
In a welcome address delivered before an assembly of senior government officials, elected representatives, traditional rulers, civil society leaders and the general public, the Mayor underscored the significance of the session as a critical moment of financial reckoning and democratic accountability for the municipality.
“This session is an important moment in the life of our Council,” Mayor Gahnyam II stated. “It provides us with the opportunity to review together how the financial and material resources of the Council were managed during the past financial year.”
The session centred on three key documents: the Administrative Account, which reflects the execution of the Council’s budget for 2025 and documents activities carried out in service to the population; the Management Account, prepared by the Municipal Treasurer, detailing all financial operations executed through the Municipal Treasury; and the Stores Account, which provides an overview of the Council’s material assets and their management.
The Mayor acknowledged the difficulties encountered over the past year, yet struck an optimistic tone, affirming that the Council had continued to pursue service delivery, community participation, and inclusive development across the municipality – achievements he credited to the collective commitment of councillors, staff, and development partners.
Addressing the Municipal Councillors directly, Mayor Gahnyam II urged active and constructive participation in all Council activities, emphasising that their engagement was essential to strengthening transparency and good governance. He expressed particular gratitude to the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, the Divisional Officer for Santa, the Local Governance and Resilience Community Project (PROLOG), and all sectoral ministries for their continued partnership and guidance.
In the presence of the Supervisory Authority – SDO for Mezam, the Councilors validated the 2025 Administrative, Management and Stores Accounts of the Council, rewarding the Mayor for sustainable stewardship of the Municipality. They feathered the Mayor to keep up the good leadership for a progress Santa Subdivision.
The Mayor received with gratitude the accolades from his fellow councilors while he paid tribute to Council staff for their tireless preparation of the documents guiding the session’s discussions.
The event drew a distinguished audience including the Member of Parliament for Santa Special Constituency, the Divisional Delegate for MINDDEVEL Mezam, heads of services, deputy mayors, religious and traditional authorities, and leaders of political parties and civil society organisations.
