The CPDM Senator of the North West region Elizabeth Regina Mundi has addressed a message of gratitude to “dear friends,” after her release from the hideout of armed separatists on Sunday May 29, 2020.
She spent 30 days in captivity and was rescued by the Cameroon’s elite force, the Rapid Intervention Unit, BIR. Senator Regina Mundi believes that coming back home alive was thanks to the prayers of all Cameroon. She has addressed a “message of gratitude” to Cameroonians, which L’Action has seen a copy.
The Senator said: “I wish to thank you all from the depth of my heart for the time you took to storm the gates of heaven on my behalf,” adding that “I might never meet you or l might never have met you but your concern for me has proven that we are children of one Father, loving and caring for one another.”
Torchlight Untouched
Besides the message, the Senator also paid a visit to the General Secretariat of the CPDM on Thursday June 2 to show her appreciation to the Secretary General Jean Nkuété, and the members of the Party for their support.
She met with the Secretary General, and his collaborators in the company of the Governor of the North West region Adolph Lele Lafrique. Speaking to L’Action after the visit, Senator Mundi said she remains a member of the CPDM, despite rumours that she was planning to leave the Party.Detractors of the CPDM claimed she was going to dump the Party after her release, since her woes said they came for her because she was a member of the ruling party. Senator Mundi has rather declared her unflinching support and unconditional adherence to the torchlight Party.
“I am not going to leave my party. I continue to be a member of the CPDM. I remain a member of the CPDM. Don’t forget that I am a member of the Political Bureau of my Party,” Senator Mundi said, while adding that she is a “Cameroonian, born and breed in Bamenda. Cameroon is a democracy and I have the right to belong to the political party of my choice.”
She expressed gratitude to the National President Paul Biya, the Secretary General Jean Nkuété and her Party comrades for the concern during her days of captivity, and to all Cameroonians for their support. She said: “I am overjoyed and overwhelmed by the concern, especially that of the Head of State.. My thanks to the Secretary General of the party who showed so much concern and had to visit my family at this critical time.”
The Senator joined her voice to that of the Head of State, calling for the combatants to drop their weapons and move into the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration, DDR, Centres.
“I saw boys in their teens and twenties. They (amba boys) should rethink what they are doing in the bushes, follow the Head of state’s message to come out and leave a normal life,” she advised and called on their leaders to let children return to the classrooms. “The armed groups should rethink this concept of keeping our children out of school. It is very unfair,” Senator Mundi said.
The BIR on special mission rescued the senator from captivity in Ashong village of Batibo Subdivision, in the Momo division of the North West region on Sunday May 29.
