Militants of the women’s wing of the CPDM in Ngie are regaining children gone astray by preaching and practicing peace at home.
This is the education they get from the WCPDM President, Grace Echobei who has been making a remarkable impact as she has maintained that women have the power to change children if they would communicate to them the right values. She believes that women can eradicate the germ of violence that has afflicted some young persons in the last five years by imparting in them the spirit of creativity.
The WCPDM President who joined the CPDM since 1997 says “I joined the party for the love of its leader and to be part of a success story” she said.
She started off in the youth wing of the CPDM as a student in Limbe, Fako division. On a particular occasion she was identified for her outstanding performances in the party by Ageuhgeu Jonny who was then Section President and was on a visit to Limbe. “He convinced me to leave Limbe and come to the North west and militate in Ngie where I come from”, she said. “Ngie and Meta in Mbengwi made up one section, the then Momo central. I was put in the Campaign team for the 1997 Presidential election. I was later made the chargé des mission for the section. In 2002 they conducted the election to reorganize the party and I was the section secretary for Momo central. From then, Ngie was given a section and I became the WCPDM section president since 2014 till date”she continued.
Mrs. Echobei has held several posts of responsibility in the party including being the alternate member of parliament with Hon. Francis Enwe with whom she enjoyed a wonderful collaboration.
She aspired to become a Senator but things didn’t favor her and she is still keeping fingers cross hoping for the right time. Meanwhile she gives her total support to the party.
As a WCPDM section president in a context marked by a crisis, she has been acknowledged for her peace initiatives and her ability to talk right. As a civil status registerer, she uses her office to educate persons who have been derailed by calling on them to realign and contribute positive to the growth and development of the nation.
Life is returning to normal in Ngie and the women are freely expressing their support for the CPDM. In their homes they strive to be better mothers and wives.
