Ahead of the celebration to mark the 42nd anniversary of President Paul Biya’s accession to power, a sports jamboree to animate militants of the 43 Subsections that make up Kupe Muanenguba III Section in Tombel is ongoing.
In a spirited atmosphere, the third edition of the Peace and Unity Tournament was officially launched in Tombel, Kupe Muanenguba Division on 28 September. Organized by Mbulle Valentine, Section President of Kupe Muanenguba III, this tournament aims to unite the youth, foster dialogue, and promote peace and development in the area. The kick-off was given following an enlarged meeting of executives of the section held to lay the groundwork for the celebration of the anniversary of the New Deal.
The tournament will feature football and handball, with teams representing different subsections that make up the Section. The mobilisation of local youths translates their enthusiasm as the see it as a platform to showcase their talents and engage with one another in a positive environment. “This is a great opportunity for our youths to come together, make new friends, and learn from each other,” the Section President said.
In addition to the sports event, the tournament will provide the political elite with the opportunity to educate militants of the party and exchange ideas with regard to their participation in the life of the nation, as the party prepares for elections in 2025. Moreover, in the present context of relative peace as the NW and SW regions still grapple with attacks from separatist fighters, discussions will be aimed at promoting peace, understanding, and collaboration among the youth. Organizers believe that these activities will contribute to the overall development of the area, encouraging young people to become active participants in their communities.
The tournament has gained popularity, attracting the support of elite and local dignitaries prompting its promoter to state that “through this tournament, we seek not only to celebrate our National Champion but also to bring our youth together, bridging divides and fostering a spirit of camaraderie,” he stated.
As the tournament unfolds, organizers hope that it will not only celebrate President Biya’s legacy but also inspire a new generation of leaders dedicated to fostering unity and development in the Kupe Muanenguba Division. The Peace and Unity Tournament is set to run through the month of October, culminating in a grand finale on the eve of the anniversary of the New Deal.
