Audience : Sultan Affirms Support for Speaker Datouo

His Majesty Mouhammad-Nabil Mforifoum Mbombo Njoya, Sultan of the Bamouns, on 3 July 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the National Assembly.

It was an opportunity for the traditional ruler to congratulate the House Speaker following his election to the helm of the lower chamber of Parliament and to reaffirm the support of the Bamoun people for his mandate. The Sultan was accompanied by Yap Abdou, President of the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court and Bamoun notable, as well as Nji Monfo’o, another notable of the Bamoun community.

According to members of the delegation, the Sultan also expressed appreciation to the Head of State for endorsing the candidature of Hon Theodore Datouo, noting that the Speaker enjoys the confidence and backing of the Bamoun traditional authorities and the wider community.

Receiving the delegation, Speaker Datouo expressed gratitude for the visit and the message of confidence conveyed by the Sultan. He reiterated his determination to serve with diligence and integrity, assuring his guests that he would faithfully represent the aspirations of the West Region while fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities as Speaker of the National Assembly.

He also underscored the important role traditional rulers play in promoting dialogue, preserving social cohesion and supporting the implementation of public policies through their close relationship with local communities.

Speaking after the meeting, the Sultan’s spokesperson, Yap Abdou, described the visit as one of goodwill and solidarity.« It was a courtesy visit. The Sultan came to extend his congratulations to the President of the National Assembly and promised him the full support of the Bamoun community. The President of the National Assembly assured the Sultan that he could count on him, just as he counts on traditional rulers to help implement the parliamentary policy» he said.

The Sultan presented the Speaker with a finely crafted wooden sculpture slate representing the rule of law and legislative authority.
