Corporate social responsibility : Telca Assists IDPs, Kumba District Hospital

Donations amounting to FCFA 50 million was recently offered to 300 internally displaced children, and medical equipment offered to Kumba hospital.

Some 300 internally displaced children from Meme Division and its environs resident in Kumba, were last week end offered consignments of didactic materials, plus a cash envelope of FCfA 50.000 each, by the Telca cocoa company, Kumba branch. The company equally donated huge consignments of Hospital equipment to the Kumba District Hospital. Materials donated to the hospital includes; infant incubators, 2 Oxygen concentrators, electrical generator, 5 tubes, Echography machine and I carton of re-agents.
During the donation ceremony at Telca Kumba branch office, the representative of the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Essa, explained that through a sustainability program adopted for farmers and the communities, Telca has embarked on projects such as the yearly premium for farmers, construction of boreholes, scholarships to deserving children, training of farmers on improved farming methods as well as contributed enormously in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Director of the company, Mme Kate Fotso through her representative, lamented the socio-political crisis that is greatly affecting the marketing of cocoa, with most quota of Cameroon’s cocoa being smuggled to Nigeria. The Senior Divisional Officer for Meme and the Kumba city mayor, all lauded Telca company for the great strides in impacting the lives of the communities and urged other companies operating in Kumba to emulate.
The Branch manager of Kumba I, Eric Hudibe, cautioned beneficiaries not to divert the funds received for other purposes. “Since parents are collecting on behalf of their children, it will be very bad to divert the funds into other activities such as drinking beer, which may not directly impact the child. The bags received are filled with books and other writing materials to cover the child for the academic year, while the FCFA50.000 is meant for school fees and other needs“ the branch manager explained. Fanfare, euphoria and jubilations characterised the occasion, with parents and kids expressing much gratitude to the company for coming to their rescue.
