Organisation of 2021 AFCON Tournament : MPs Acclaim Paul Biya’s Prowess

It was during the first session of the 2022 legislative year, chaired by the eldest member of the Chamber, Hon. Laurentine Koa Fegue.

Cameroon now stands tallest amongst its peers on the continent with regard to the organisation of the African football tournament and praise must be given to whom it is due. Paul Biya. The number one sportsman who made Cameroon shine brightest last January during the African football jamboree hosted by Cameroon was showered praises by the eldest member of the National Assembly, Honorable Laurentine Koa Mfegue. Her speech, which was the lone item on the day’s agenda, bore all the strides made by the head of State to lift the country’s flag higher. She further congratulated Samuel Eto’o Fils for his election at the helm of FECAFOOT and Rigobert Song for his appointment as Head coach of the Indomitable Lions, referring to them as the right men in the right places while exhorting them to diligently do their part in fulfilling the aspirations of Cameroonians.
Hon. Laurentine Mfegue equally lauded government’s effort under the impulse of the head of state to fight covid-19 which helped youths to keep the tradition of February 11 and women to commemorate the international day of the Woman. These among other activities cited she said were what animated the life of the nation that is resilient in the face of diverse adversities and resolute it its march towards emergence.
As for the war in Ukraine, which has unfortunately trapped some Cameroonians living there, the eldest member of the National Assembly reassured compatriots of the nation’s solidarity in the hope that government would do all to take them out of their current predicament. She said as a mother, wife and representative of the nation “I would like to add my voice to those of members of the National Assembly of Cameroon to appeal to the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to call for a ceasefire and to open negotiations in order to do the needful in the interest of their respective countries”.
She implored her colleagues to be patriotic and disciplined during the election of the permanent Bureau, the setting up of parliamentary groups and general committees to run the affairs if the house during this new legislature. The elections would pave the way for members of the Chamber to resume their constitutional missions of voting laws and controlling government action with usual commitment and sense of responsibility. A moment of silence was observed at the beginning of the plenary sitting, in memory of compatriots who died as a result of the stampede on January 24 at the Olembe Stadium and the Sub Divisional Officer, Mayor and others murdered in Ekondo Titi recently by terrorists.
