The head of the ruling CPDM’s North West regional campaign team, has urged municipal councilors to ensure party discipline at upcoming Regional election scheduled for November 30.
Philemon Yang, addressing party militants while launching campaigns at the Bamenda Congress Hall on Saturday, made clear that electoral loyalty is non-negotiable for party members, regardless of personal grievances or unfulfilled expectations.
« All our militants, all our regional councilors, all our municipal councilors are all creations of the CPDM, » Yang said. « If the CPDM weren’t in place, you won’t be where you are. »
The former prime minister took direct aim at party members who might consider breaking ranks over contract disputes or financial disappointments, describing such behavior as misguided attempts to appear « more intelligent. »
« Please, all militants at all levels must respect the discipline of our party in all places and at all times, » he emphasized.
Yang’s remarks come as the CPDM prepares for elections in which it faces no opposition in the 70-member House of Divisional Representatives.
Despite running unopposed, Yang urged councilors to deliver a strong turnout, pointing to the regional assembly’s record as justification for continued support. He cited the body’s achievements amid challenging circumstances and positioned decentralization as an irreversible process.
« The Regional Assembly has done much despite the difficulties, » Yang said, calling on party faithful to help make the North West « number one » among Cameroon’s regions.
He outlined the assembly’s mandate to revive local cultures, reinforce the region’s role in national stability, and strengthen local democracy — goals he described as essential to the region’s development trajectory.
The North West campaign launch challenges party militants not to take for granted their dominance but turnout massively to give election results quality in numbers.
