At a historic gathering in Bafoussam, militants of the CPDM in the West Region renewed their pact of confidence with President Paul Biya, pledging to transform appreciation into votes for the party at future elections.
The Tocket Omnisport Stadium in Bafoussam offered a vivid illustration of the political vitality of the West Region on Saturday, 25 July, as thousands of CPDM militants from the eight divisions of the region, administrative and traditional authorities parliamentarians and business leaders converged for an exceptional day of unity. In songs, dances and speeches, the militants demonstrated gratitude to President Paul Biya for the confidence reposed in one of their own through the election of the Rt Hon. Theodore Datouo as Speaker of the National Assembly.
From El Hadj Komidor Njimoluh, Head of the Permanent Regional Delegation of the West Region, Senator Ngouchinghe Sylvestre, Head of the Permanent Delegation for Mifi to Hon. Albert Kuinche, all hailed what they described as another mark of the Head of State’s recognition of merit, while reaffirming the West Region’s unwavering attachment to the ideals of the CPDM. They pledged sustained mobilisation behind President Paul Biya and renewed support in the forthcoming legislative and municipal elections.
The Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee, Jean Nkuété, said the election (upon proposal) of Theodore Datouo once again demonstrated President Paul Biya’s confidence in the West Region and called on the population to “cling to him like driver ants cling to flesh” in helping him accomplish his mission in peace and national unity. Turning to the electoral stakes, Jean Nkuété was clear about the expectations placed upon the West Region. “Take up the pilgrim’s staff and mobilise as one man behind President Paul Biya, in order to win the legislative and municipal elections hands down … offer him total victory that consolidates our achievements and paves the way for new conquests,” he declared.
Responding to the outpouring of support, Speaker Theodore Datouo thanked President Paul Biya for the confidence bestowed on him. Referring to lessons drawn from the 2025 presidential election, he called for greater unity, political maturity and stronger grassroots mobilisation so that the West Region remains an example of civic responsibility and electoral discipline. Echoing President Paul Biya’s longstanding conviction that “the development of Cameroon will be accomplished with the West Region,” he said the confidence shown in electing one of its sons to the presidency of the National Assembly must inspire greater commitment to national development.
He also announced a FCFA 40 million contribution towards equipping the haemodialysis centre of the Bafoussam Regional Hospital, describing it as his contribution to improving healthcare in the region.
