The oath-taking ceremony of members of the North West Regional Executive Council took place on January 7, 2025, in Bamenda. The ceremony marked the official commitment of the newly installed officials to pilot the development agenda of the North West Region for the next five years.
According to Section 358 of the General Code Instituting Regional and Local Authorities, the solemn ceremony legally positions the elected executive members to steer the activities of the North West Regional Assembly, the principal authority responsible for defining and implementing regional development policies. The oath further affirms that, in the discharge of their duties, the officials are accountable both to the population of the region and to the laws governing their functioning.
The eight-member bureau took the oath of office before the President of North West Court of Appeal, pledging allegiance to the principles of truth, justice and the rule of law. In doing so, they committed themselves to uphold the Constitution, respect republican institutions and serve the interest of the people without discrimination.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, the President of the North West Regional Assembly, Prof Fru Angwafo III reminded the executive council of the trust placed in them by the electorate and the high expectations of the population. He called on the team to prioritise peace, development and good governance across the region while inviting the population of the Region to strengthen collaboration with his team. “For the first five years we worked together to understand the problems of our communities. This time, we want to deepen the dialogue, community development and innovate so that the young will join the digital economy,” he said.
The second mandate of the Regional Executive Council welcomes four new faces including: Fon Nfor Amidu Nji who is Vice President, Prof Anyambod Emmanuel Anya (Commissioner for Education, Sports and Cultural Development), Mvo Zenobia Ndum (Secretary I) and Fon Zofoa Abubaka Fuanfor (Secretary II). They bring in fresh impetus to mend forces with the second timers; Ghejung Awunti (Commissioner for Economic Development), Fondufe Yaa Saka Lydia (Commissioner for Health and Social Development), Waindim Jude Nsom (Questor) and the President, Prof Fru Angwafo III Fobuzshi. With the oath-taking ceremony completed, the North West Regional Executive Council is now fully installed and expected to immediately commence work, as the population looks to the new leadership to translate decentralisation into tangible development outcomes for the region.
